Webinar #05 - Empowering resilience and preventingburnout among health workforceduring the Covid-19 pandemic

Genomic Sequencing of SARS-COV-2 in Israel: practical aspects and current findings

Objective

The webinar will focus on diagnosis of SARS-nCOV-2 infection and describe the main laboratory challenges encountered during the pandemic and the practical solutions utilized in Israel to enable mass testing and viral variant analysis

Background

Being a novel virus with unknown clinical effects, the SARS-nCOV-2 infection that started at the end of 2019 posed dramatic diagnostic challenges globally. The need to set and quickly expand the number of diagnostic laboratories, to increase the rate of diagnosis as well as the identification of mutations in the viral sequence, pose a continuous challenge to quickly adapt novel approaches that will be adequate to this pandemic

This webinar will describe the Israeli experience in quickly adapting to the local needs.

Key issues

  1. Main challenges in SARS-nCOV-2 laboratory diagnosis.
  2. National reorganization and progressive expansion of capabilities in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
  3. Sequencing and mutation analysis, identification and follow up of new viral variants.
  4. Lessons we have learned.
